I'M GOING TO MAKE ALMOND FLOUR CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES TODAY!
I ALSO WANT TO LIVE TO SEE MY CHILDREN MAKE TEENAGE AND ADULT MISTAKES AND BE PRESENT FOR THEM THEN. I WANT TO LIVE TO SEE THIS! DOES ANYONE HEAR ME???
I hear you! I want this for you too! I want you to live to be present for all the parenting to come: the aggravation, the anxieties, the celebrations, and all the unnotable ordinary moments.
Ah. I learned that I'm not as good at them as I'd thought. I thought it was the same as getting overextended and then blowing up and storming off, refusing to finish what I started. Apparently not. Someone wise told me that relationships are closer with boundaries because we know where we stand. That's not how I was raised, so I had to learn.
There's a shorthand I learned from a podcast by Amber DeLaGarza (sp?):
1. Ask, "What do I need in order to show up as my best self?"
2. Communicate those needs.
3. Repeat. Unfortunately it is our job to hold our boundaries, no one else's.
I think this goes well with NVC, but I'm a noob so can't articulate how.
I WANT TO SHOUT ABOUT NOT ALWAYS UNDERSTANDING MY KIDS BUT TRYING LIKE HELL ANYWAY, AND TRUSTING THAT TRYING IS WHAT MATTERS, AND FORGIVING MYSELF WHEN I FALL SHORT!
I WANT TO SHOUT ABOUT WHAT GORGEOUS BRIGHT LIGHTS MY CHILDREN ARE AND HOW PAINFUL IT IS TO WATCH THEIR LIGHTS DIM IN THE FACE OF SOCIETAL MESSAGES THEY IMPLICITLY RECEIVE!!

Thank you, friend!
Me too me too me too!!!
I WANT TO TRUST THAT MY KIDS ARE OK AND WILL BE OK NO MATTER WHAT I'VE DONE OR NOT DONE!
I WANT THAT TRUST FOR YOU TOO! IS THIS KIND OF LIKE THE TEXT VERSION OF SMASHING CLAY POTS?
I WANT TO SHOUT ABOUT BOUNDARIES!
SAY MORE! WHAT ABOUT BOUNDARIES?

(This is really cathartic.)
ISN'T IT? I'M AMUSING MYSELF SHOUTING BACK.
AND YES, I TRUST THAT THE TRYING IS WHAT MATTERS. KEEP GOING!
I WANT TO SHOUT ABOUT WHAT GORGEOUS BRIGHT LIGHTS MY CHILDREN ARE AND HOW PAINFUL IT IS TO WATCH THEIR LIGHTS DIM IN THE FACE OF SOCIETAL MESSAGES THEY IMPLICITLY RECEIVE!!
ARGH!!! FOR SOCIETAL MESSAGES. YES!!
(love this idea so much, Sarah)
